Riverbank Farm is a certified organic farm in Roxbury, Connecticut, operated by David Blyn and Laura McKinney. David began growing vegetables on the property in 1989, farming full time by 1991; Laura joined in 1996 after completing sustainable agriculture studies. The farm grows a wide range of seasonal vegetables, fruits, herbs, and cut flowers, starting the majority of its crops from seed in on-site greenhouses. Through its Riverbank Farm Kitchen, launched in 2007, the farm also produces vegetarian soups, salads, hummus, pestos, fermented pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut, and other prepared foods. Products are available at area farmers' markets and select retail outlets. Learn more on their About Page.
Riverbank Farm holds certified organic status and uses no herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, or synthetic pesticides. The farm's bottomland fields are nourished by the fertile soils of the Shepaug River. Crops are started from seed in the farm's own greenhouses and harvested seasonally. Riverbank Farm Kitchen products are made with farm-grown seasonal produce and organic ingredients. The kitchen line includes fermented items such as pickles, ginger carrots, salsa, kimchi, and sauerkraut, prepared alongside vegetarian soups, salads, hummus, and pestos.
