Rattle Root Farm

Rattle Root Farm grows food using what it describes as beyond-organic practices, without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or GMOs. The farm follows a no-till approach, using permanent raised beds with minimal soil disturbance after an initial one-time tillage. Soil is kept covered with organic mulches such as woodchips, leaves, and compost for weed suppression and nutrient addition, and cover crops are used for soil health and carbon sequestration. Perennial hedgerows are integrated into vegetable plots for pest management and biodiversity. Heavy machinery is avoided to reduce soil compaction and fossil fuel inputs. The farm also plants perennials and native plants to support pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects. Only organic, tested mulches and composts are added to beds.
