Urban market garden and farm stand growing heirloom vegetables, fruit, and free-range eggs.
Raccoon Bend Farms is a small urban market garden in North Bossier Parish, established in 1998 by Lee and Alicia DuCote. Lee brings a background in traditional crop farming, and Alicia brings experience in horse and cattle ranching; together they explored regenerative farming in Tennessee and Arkansas before returning to Louisiana to put those practices to work. The property began as a horse pasture and was converted into market-produce gardens, with the original horse barn renovated into a live-work space. The farm grows heirloom vegetables and fruit and raises free-range hens, selling its produce through an on-site farm stand. Alicia also pursues wellness and nutrition education alongside the farming operation. Learn more on their About Page.
Raccoon Bend Farms uses heirloom, non-GMO seeds and organic growing practices throughout its market garden, with no chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides applied. The farm's hens are free-range, roaming over an acre, and are fed an organic diet; the birds also work the market garden to help control pests naturally. The farm describes its approach as regenerative, a framework Lee and Alicia studied before establishing the current operation.
