Parlee Farms is a 100-acre family-owned farm founded by Mark and Ellen Parlee, who purchased their first land in Tyngsboro in 1986 and opened to the public in 1994. The farm offers pick-your-own strawberries, sweet cherries, blueberries, peaches, flowers, apples, and pumpkins across its growing season. A Farmstand on the property carries homemade apple cider donuts, fresh baked goods, and the farm's own non-GMO sweet corn. Visitors can also find seasonal food at Mary's Country Kitchen, lunch at The Lunch Box, and family activities at Annie's Animal Barns and The Sandbox. Parlee Farms has practiced Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for more than 30 years. Predator insects are released into the fields as a first defense against damaging insects, and spraying is reserved for pests or diseases that could seriously harm the crop. An IPM consultant scouts fields weekly using traps throughout the fruit and corn areas. The farm conducts annual soil and tissue analyses and creates fertilizer and nutrient programs for each crop. Cover crops like winter rye are planted after harvest to add organic matter and prevent erosion. Crops are rotated across strawberry, corn, pumpkin, and flower fields. Parlee Farms was among the first in New England to adopt zone tillage, which disturbs only the narrow crop row to improve drainage, soil water and nutrient capacity, and erosion control. A NEWA weather station on the property sends data to Cornell University to support more precise IPM and crop decisions.
