Volunteer-run CSA farm growing vegetables, fruit, and flowers for subscribers and neighbors in need.
Mustard Seed Community Farm is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit farm that has been in operation since 2008. It runs a small seasonal CSA, offering weekly boxes of vegetables, fruit, and herbs from May through October, along with an optional flower share. Members can also participate through workshares, contributing labor in exchange for a full vegetable share. Beyond its CSA, the farm grows food for local shelters, soup kitchens, and families in need through gift shares and a Farm to Clinic food and nutrition partnership. It is part of the Catholic Worker movement, an interfaith and inclusive social justice movement, and sells surplus produce such as garlic through Wheatsfield Co-Op. Learn more on their About Page.
Mustard Seed Community Farm grows food according to organic standards, though it does not hold organic certification. Its land-stewardship approach explicitly avoids petrol-derived pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. The farm uses crop rotation, green manures, cover crops, permaculture and perennial plantings, and beneficial insect and animal habitat to build living soil and mimic natural systems. It also incorporates erosion control and waterway protection into its farming practices. The farm works to reduce dependence on fossil fuels through conservation, manual labor, and solar and wind power.
