Medicinal and culinary herb farm offering CSA shares, nursery plants, and herb-based salves.
Muddy River Herbals is a medicinal and culinary herb farm in Canton, Massachusetts, run by farmers Jenny and Matt. The farm grows dozens of herbs and sells them as fresh and dried bunches, seedlings, nursery plants, and finished products such as salves and zines. Its CSA runs from mid-June through the end of October, offering ten biweekly share pickups in four locations: on-farm in Canton, Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, and Norfolk. Share tiers are designed for herbalists, botanical medicine students, families, and culinary cooks, with a workshare option for those who prefer to contribute labor. CSA members also receive a digital newsletter with recipes and field notes, and are invited to a seasonal farm potluck and tour.
Muddy River Herbals grows its herbs using ecological methods described as being in rhythm with the environments of eastern Massachusetts and attentive to the wild native species that share its fields. CSA shares occasionally include wildcrafted (sustainably foraged) botanicals such as plantain, dandelion, and violets alongside farm-grown herbs. The farm tends its plants from seeding through harvest and into members' hands, and it offers landscaping and garden design services alongside its herb production.
