Monadnock Food Co-op is a cooperatively and member-owned full-service grocery store and deli that opened in April 2013. It carries local, organic, natural, fair trade, and sustainably grown foods, with products from over 300 local farmers and producers located within 110 miles of the store. The store spans nearly 20,000 square feet following a 2021 expansion and offers curbside pickup, catering, a hot bar, a bulk aisle, and a community room available for public reservation. Any member of the public is welcome to shop; anyone can also become a Member-Owner to help shape the co-op's direction. The co-op operates a Healthy Food for All discount program and participates in Double Up Food Bucks to broaden access to its grocery offerings. Monadnock Food Co-op sources from over 300 local farmers and producers within 110 miles, prioritizing local, organic, fair trade, and sustainably grown products. Its rooftop hosts the first locally owned community-supported solar project in the Monadnock Region: a 146-panel array generating about 71,400 kWh and offsetting over 81,000 lbs of carbon yearly. Since January 2016, all organic waste, including meat scraps, café waste, and compostable bioplastics, has been composted, diverting over 50% of total waste from landfills monthly. In 2023, compostable PLA clamshells replaced containers in Produce, Bulk, Cheese, Grab-and-Go, and Meat. Kitchen grease goes through Baker's Commodities for use in lubricants, animal feed, and biofuel, and back-of-house food scraps go to local livestock farmers as feed. The co-op holds a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Business award from the League of American Bicyclists and participates in the Bicycle Benefits program.
