MAʻO Organic Farms is an organic farm and social enterprise located in Lualualei Valley, Waiʻanae. Produce is sold through a CSA subscription service, farmers markets, grocers, natural food stores, and restaurants across Oʻahu. The farm trains and mentors youth as interns and apprentices, who co-manage the operation and gain pathways to college and careers. The CSA runs on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule; each box contains 8 to 10 items determined by what is abundant at harvest. MAʻO Organic Farms grows its produce organically. The farm is situated in Lualualei Valley, where it benefits from the area's unique Lualualei vertisol soil series and abundant sunshine. Production is diversified across more than 40 fruit and vegetable varieties, a mix the farm describes as vital to a healthy farm operation. The farm began on an initial 5-acre leased plot in 2001 and expanded to a 24-acre core campus by 2011. Youth interns and apprentices work directly in growing and processing operations as part of the farm's integrated educational model. CSA boxes are assembled from whatever is abundant and at peak harvest at the time of packing, resulting in a changing selection of salad greens, cooking greens, root vegetables, herbs, and seasonal fruits.
