A 20-acre Iowa farmstead offering raw goats' milk, duck eggs, farm lodging, and goat yoga.
Lucky Star Farm is a 20-acre farmstead owned and operated by Susan and Rich Young, located between Iowa City and Kalona. The farm has been in operation since May 2011 and raises goats, ducks, llamas, sheep, and other animals. Its current products are raw goats' milk and duck eggs. Duck eggs go to standing customers and to The Webster restaurant in Iowa City. The goat herd began as Nigerian dwarf goats and has since expanded to include other milk-producing breeds. Beyond food products, Lucky Star Farm offers farm lodging, educational tours, and seasonal goat yoga. All farm visits are by appointment only. Learn more on their About Page.
Lucky Star Farm practices silvopasture, integrating trees, livestock, and forages as a combined system to provide food and shelter for animals and to regenerate the land. The farm added solar panels through a program with Johnson County to offset some of its energy use. The farm states that its decisions are guided by the welfare of its livestock and a goal of sustainable land stewardship.
