Overview
Certified Naturally Grown market garden offering customizable weekly CSA vegetable shares and farmers market produce.
Little Farm Fresh is a small organic market garden in Markdale, Ontario, growing seasonal vegetables and herbs for a limited number of local families each season. It offers a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program running 18 weeks from mid-June to mid-October, with two share sizes: a Small Share (6-8 vegetables, suitable for 1-2 people) and a Family Share (7-10 vegetables, suitable for up to 2 adults and 2 children). Members log in weekly to customize their vegetable selection from whatever is ready to harvest, and produce is harvested on the same day it is delivered or picked up. Delivery is available across a network of nearby towns, with farm pickup also offered. Little Farm Fresh also sells at the Owen Sound Farmers Market on Saturdays. CSA membership is intentionally kept small, and the farm hosts an annual Open Farm Day for members.
Little Farm Fresh is Certified Naturally Grown and a member of the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO). It uses organic seeds exclusively and applies no chemical pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides. Pests are managed with netting, crop rotation, and close monitoring. Beyond organic, the farm uses regenerative methods to improve soil health and ecosystem function: soil stays covered with cover crops or reusable landscape fabric between seasons, tilling is minimized to protect soil biology, and hand tools keep mechanical impact low. Fertility is built with compost, green manures, and chicken manure. Drip-line irrigation reduces water use. The farm practices bio-intensive planting, using succession planting and intensive spacing to maximize yields from a small footprint. Wild spaces on the property are maintained as pollinator habitat. Packaging is reusable all CSA season: bags, mesh salad bags, and cardboard pints are exchanged and washed at the farm each week.
