Kollasch Family Farms is a small family operation run by Matt and Hilary Kollasch, who raise organically fed beef, pastured pork, chickens, and eggs on their northern Iowa farm. The farm offers two distinct beef programs: organically fed, grain-finished beef and 100% grass-fed and finished beef raised on certified organic pasture. Pork comes from Idaho Pasture Pigs, a grazing breed raised outdoors on organic grains and the farm's own grasses. Pastured eggs are produced by Kollasch Kids Coop, a youth-run flock of free-range, organically fed hens. Beef is sold by reservation in quarter, half, and whole shares, with local pickup or shipping available in the greater Midwest. The farm also produces whipped tallow body butter made from its own cattle, and operates a feed store carrying natural livestock minerals, organic fertilizers, and soil amendments.
Kollasch Family Farms operates on certified organic ground and raises all livestock feed on-farm, functioning as a closed-loop system with breeding, feeding, and harvesting conducted within one mile. The farm uses regenerative agriculture methods, including cover cropping, reduced tillage, and rotational grazing, with a focus on building soil biology and carbon cycling. Weed control relies on flame weeding rather than synthetic herbicides, and no synthetic chemicals are used on the land. Cattle are Pinzgauer x Red Angus crosses, a breed selected for performance in grass-based and regenerative systems. Idaho Pasture Pigs are chosen for their ability to thrive on pasture and organic grains. The farm grows its own certified organic grasses and grains to feed its livestock, and prioritizes nutrient-balanced production practices across all crop rotations.
