Janzen Family Farms

Janzen Family Farms raises its Angus herd on a grass-only diet for the animal's entire life, pasturing cattle year-round on native prairie, cool-season brome, winter cover crops such as triticale, sorghum stubble, and protein-rich alfalfa. No hormones, antibiotics, or grain are used. The herd descends from old-line Angus stock acquired in 2007 and is bred to finish on grass in 21 to 26 months. The farm raises its cattle to meet the USDA grass (forage) fed marketing claim standard, which requires forage as the sole feed source for the animal's lifetime with continuous pasture access during the growing season. The farm describes its approach as sustainable, including regenerative agriculture. Berkshire hogs raised on-site by partner Rockin D Farms are kept in an outdoor facility, fed grain grown by partner farmers, and are free of synthetic hormones and antibiotics. Hogs are processed at Peabody Sausage House, a small-scale butcher a short distance from the farm.
