Certified organic macadamia nut farm on the Big Island of Hawaii
Island Harvest is a certified organic macadamia nut farm operating on 700-plus acres in North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii. Founded in 1991 to help steward Kohala's agricultural lands after the region's sugarcane era ended, it took over macadamia orchards originally planted in the 1970s and 1980s. The farm sells its nuts in several forms: plain unsalted, sea salt, Hawaiian chili pepper, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and macadamia nut butter, in a range of bag sizes. Products are available through the farm's own online shop as well as select retail locations. Learn more on their About Page.
Island Harvest began transitioning its macadamia orchards toward organic certification in 2015 and is now a certified organic farm. The nuts are single-origin, grown entirely on the farm's own North Kohala acreage. Orchards are rain-fed and require no irrigation. The farm uses organic farming methods without harmful pesticides, and reuses macadamia husks to support carbon efficiency. Island Harvest describes its approach as regenerative agriculture, with a stated goal of building healthy soils and reducing erosion. The farm reinvests 50% of profits into regenerative agriculture activities such as spreading compost and planting trees, 25% into local community programs in partnership with the North Kohala Community Resource Center, and 25% is shared with farm employees.
