Oyster farm and fishery growing and sourcing oysters, caviar, tinned fish, and shellfish from Duxbury Bay.
Island Creek Oysters is a vertically integrated shellfish farm and fishery rooted in Duxbury Bay. Founded by Skip Bennett, the son of a lobsterman raised in Duxbury's Island Creek neighborhood, the operation began in the early 1990s with oyster farming trials in the bay and became a full-time business by around 2000. The farm raises oysters in the cold, turbulent, salty waters of Duxbury Bay and also sources shellfish from farms across Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and Canada. The company operates one of the only shellfish hatcheries in the Northeast and a distribution company supplying shellfish from more than 100 farms to roughly 700 chefs nationwide. Retail offerings include oysters, caviar and roe, tinned fish, clams, scallops, lobster, crab, and smoked fish. It also runs raw bars, a restaurant, and a retail shop, and offers farm tours. Island Creek Oysters raises its oysters in Duxbury Bay, where cold, turbulent, and salty water conditions define the character of the harvest. The business operates one of the only shellfish hatcheries in the Northeast, supporting both its own farm production and the broader regional shellfish supply chain. In addition to its own farm oysters, it sources shellfish from vetted farms in Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and Canada for its wholesale and retail programs. The farm describes itself as the heart of everything it does, growing food it considers good for the people who eat it, the people who grow it, and the place where it is raised.
