Pasture-raised beef, pork, and poultry from a multi-generational family farm in the Upper Valley.
Independence Acres is a family farm on land that has been registered as farmland since 1805 and has been in the family for three generations. Jason and Maranda launched the beef herd in 2020, starting with calves from his parents' former dairy operation. Maranda holds a degree in dairy management from UNH and brought years of homesteading experience to the venture. The farm raises primarily Angus beef, Berkshire and Hampshire pork, and pasture-raised chicken and turkey. It also sells raw honey sourced from a local beekeeper with hives throughout the Upper Valley. Products are available through an online store with pickup and delivery options, and the farm sells at local farmers markets. Learn more on their About Page.
Cattle at Independence Acres are rotationally grazed and moved to fresh pasture every couple of days in a low-stress environment. Since the farm's transition in 2020, chemical fertilizers have been eliminated from the fields, and the farm relies on the animals themselves for tilling rather than mechanical equipment. New seeds are drilled into fields to increase forage nutrition and quality. Pigs are raised on pasture to root, till, and behave naturally; Berkshire and Hampshire breeds are the primary focus. Chickens and turkeys are raised in chicken tractors that provide fresh grass access each day. The farm maintains a goal of continuous soil improvement and more sustainable forage production across all herds.
