Homestead Produce is a family-owned farm founded in 2012 on a historic homestead in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, revived by first-generation farmers Jordan and Kayla. The farm grows produce and garlic and raises a mobile pastured laying flock, selling through its own on-farm market stand and local retailers. The farm stand carries products from other local farms alongside Homestead Produce's own eggs, garlic, and seasonal vegetables. Garlic is grown in nutrient-rich soil using regenerative practices, with the best bulbs saved for seed stock. Homestead Produce farms organically and regeneratively, with soil and animal health as its stated first priority. The laying flock is raised using a mobile pastured system: chicken coops are moved regularly to give hens access to fresh pasture and organic matter, which allows the land to recover, spreads manure evenly for composting, and preserves the insect and worm population in the soil. Hens are fed a locally milled ration made from peas, barley, alfalfa, camelina meal, and organic micronutrients. The farm does not feed corn, soy, or GMOs. Hens are not medicated; the farm relies on natural, preventative methods to support flock health. Garlic is grown in nutrient-rich soil using the same regenerative practices applied across the farm.
