Family-farmed, stone-milled flour and bread from a grain mill on Hillside Ranch.
Hillside Grain is a family-run stone mill that grows its own grain and mills it into fresh flour on Hillside Ranch, where the family has farmed since the early 1970s. The mill was built by founder Brett Stevenson to create a more direct connection between farmers and their broader communities, carrying forward the work of her father, an award-winning grain grower. The farm sits at the headwaters of Silver Creek in the Wood River Valley, a high-elevation environment the business credits with producing consistently plump, low-moisture kernels. Hillside Grain mills a range of varieties, including ancient, purple, and black wheats, and also offers Hillside Bread. The business emphasizes transparency and identity preservation from field to flour. Learn more on their About Page.
Hillside Grain practices organic and sustainable farming and uses no glyphosate, no GMO seed, no additives, no enrichment, no bleach, and no bromate in its flour. Milling is done on a custom stone mill, a close replica of historic French Burr millstones, paired with sifters and a roller mill to produce high-extraction flours that retain the germ and bran. Because germ and bran are preserved, the business considers its flour semi-perishable. The team continually explores grain varieties selected for low water needs, higher carbon sequestering, and distinct flavor profiles.
