Hidden Villa is an educational nonprofit farm spanning over 1,600 acres in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, founded by Frank and Josephine Duveneck in the 1920s. The farm runs a seasonal CSA program that delivers weekly shares of organic produce and cut flowers to members from mid-May through October, with pickup at the farm or at off-site locations in Los Altos and Palo Alto. Pastured chicken, pastured pork, grass-fed lamb, eggs, and honey are available year-round through the farm's online store and at the Los Altos Farmers' Market during the season. A nose-to-tail range of cuts is offered, from roasts and chops to livers, hearts, and feet. Hidden Villa also donates approximately 25% of its organic produce to neighbors experiencing food insecurity through its Healthy Foods, Healthy Families program. Learn more on their About Page.
Hidden Villa raises its pigs from heritage Gloucestershire Old Spots and Berkshire sows, born and raised on the farm, with free access to certified organic, GMO-free feed supplemented by eggs, milk, vegetables, and bread from local sources. Lambs are 100% grass-fed, rotating seasonally through organic pastures, and are fed only dried grasses off-season with no grain. Meat chickens are raised on pasture in moveable open-air coops that are shifted to fresh grass twice a day, allowing the birds to forage while systematically fertilizing the soil. Across all livestock, Hidden Villa practices seasonal rotational grazing, uses low-stress handling techniques, respects each animal's natural diet, provides organic feed when available, and administers antibiotics sparingly for disease treatment only. Meat from antibiotic-treated animals is not sold to the public. The farm's produce carries CCOF organic certification.
