Diverse heirloom and specialty vegetable farm offering a weekly CSA and farmers market stand.
Henry's Farm is a vegetable operation run by farmer Henry Brockman in Congerville, Illinois, where he has been building soil and growing food since 1993. The farm offers a weekly CSA that delivers 7 to 9 peak-season vegetables per week, running from late May through late November. Members can also find Henry's produce at his stand at the Evanston Farmers Market, and bulk vegetable orders are available. Brockman grows over 50 crops, planting anywhere from 1 to 80 varieties within each, with a strong emphasis on heirloom varieties sourced from around the world. He has been recognized with the R.J. Vollmer Sustainable Agriculture Award and the USDA SARE Patrick Madden Award. Learn more on their About Page.
Henry's Farm grows more than 50 vegetable crops, with variety counts per crop ranging from a single selection to 80 or more, including heirloom varieties tied to Native American agricultural traditions and seeds brought by immigrants. The farm does not use herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, or other biocides, and emphasizes maintaining a balanced ecosystem rooted in healthy soil. Brockman describes his approach as working with nature to protect soil ecology, conserve energy and resources, and sequester carbon in the soil through crop growth and organic matter. Biodiversity across the fields is a stated cornerstone of the farming method, with the goal of creating an environment that supports healthy plants, insects, animals, and soil life.
