Grower-owned mill producing certified organic flours and grains from High Plains wheat
Heartland Mill is a grower-owned flour mill founded in 1985 in Marienthal, Kansas. Its owners and partner farmers grow a diversity of certified organic crops, with Hard Red Winter Wheat as the primary focus. The mill produces a wide range of flours for home and professional bakers, including unbleached roller-milled flours, stone-ground whole wheat and whole white wheat flours, heritage Turkey wheat flours, stone-ground rye, whole spelt, cornmeal, and oat and millet products. Semolina and durum patent flour round out the lineup. All products are certified organic (unless otherwise marked) and certified Kosher. Wheat varieties are selected to perform well both in the field and at the bakery. Learn more on their About Page.
Heartland Mill sources its grain through ethical partnerships with organic farmers across the High Plains, with its owner-farmers as primary growers. The mill holds National Organic Program certification and Orthodox Union Kosher certification, and makes its certification documents publicly available. Wheat varieties are chosen to thrive under the unpredictable conditions of western Kansas while also milling into high-performing flour. Stone-ground whole wheat flour is milled on natural stone mills from hard red wheat blends, with nothing added or removed. Roller-milled flours are unbleached and unenriched, milled predominantly from hard winter wheat grown in the High Plains region. The mill publishes detailed flour quality lab data, including protein, moisture, ash, falling number, and alveograph results, for bakery customers.
