Direct-to-consumer beef and pork farm raising Angus Wagyu cattle on Kansas pastures.
Callicrate Cattle Company is a direct-to-consumer beef and pork operation located near St. Francis, Kansas, raising Angus Wagyu cattle and hogs on high-quality grass pastures. The farm sells beef cuts, pork, pasture-raised eggs, and beef bone broth through Ranch Foods Direct retail stores and online. Callicrate processes animals on-site through a USDA-inspected mobile meat processing unit (EST. 40432M), and ages its beef two to three weeks for tenderness and flavor. The operation also produces bonechar and biochar as soil amendment products, returning nutrients to the surrounding farmland. All animals are born, raised, and harvested in the United States.
Callicrate Cattle Company uses no performance-enhancing drugs, sub-therapeutic antibiotics, hormones, steroids, or beta-agonists in its feeding program. Cattle are fed dryland barley rather than irrigated corn, and diets are formulated to fit the ruminant digestive system without reliance on antibiotics. Calves remain with their mothers for approximately six months, followed by a low-stress weaning process, then transition through high-roughage diets before finishing on higher-barley rations. Animals are slaughtered on-site to eliminate travel stress, following Temple Grandin's recommended animal handling guidelines. The farm applies livestock manure to surrounding soils in place of chemical fertilizers, and manages cattle in what it describes as an environmentally regenerative manner.
