Family farm raising 100% grass-fed beef in Monroe County, Indiana
Hayes Grass-Fed Beef is a family-owned farm in Monroe County, Indiana, operated by John and Stacy Hayes. The farm has been in the Hayes family since 1962, with John taking over the farming operation in 1986. The herd is made up of Angus cows crossed with Gelbvieh and Balancer Bulls, a combination chosen to produce lean, tender beef. Cattle are born on the farm, raise their offspring on the farm, and spend their lives roaming and grazing its grass-covered rolling hills. Beef is available for purchase as individual vacuum-sealed packages or in bulk quantities of a whole, half, or quarter beef. Cuts range from ground beef and steaks to roasts, offal, and soup bones. Learn more on their About Page.
All cattle at Hayes Grass-Fed Beef are pasture-born and pasture-raised, grazing on the farm's own land throughout their lives. The farm raises a herd of Angus cows bred with Gelbvieh and Balancer Bulls; heifers born on the farm are kept to replace older cattle, and new bulls are purchased as needed, keeping the herd self-sustaining. Individual packages carry the USDA stamp on each vacuum-sealed package. For bulk orders, the farm works with Sander Processing in Celestine, Indiana, where beef is cooled and aged approximately 7 to 10 days before processing begins. The farm has paid membership dues to the American Grassfed Association and has expressed intent to pursue AGA certification once the process is complete, though certification has not yet been confirmed.
