Fifth-generation dairy farm with a farm store selling milk, yogurt, cheese, and natural beef.
Hastings Farm is a fifth-generation dairy farm in Suffield, Connecticut. The farm's roots trace back to Howard Hastings, who diversified the family's tobacco operation by adding a small dairy herd. Subsequent generations grew and expanded the farm, and fourth-generation farmers Megan and Lauren Hastings continue the tradition today. The dairy herd is a mix of approximately 100 Holsteins and Jerseys, alongside a small beef herd. The on-farm retail store, built in 2011, sells the farm's own dairy and natural beef products as well as goods from neighboring farms. Visitors are welcome to come meet the cows and watch a robotic milker in action. Learn more on their About Page.
Hastings Farm processes its own milk on site, offering non-homogenized whole milk that is pasteurized at a low temperature. The dairy herd is milked twice daily. The farm's beef cattle are born and raised on the property without the use of feed antibiotics or artificial growth hormones, and are pastured for most of the year. When pasture is unavailable, the beef herd is fed crops raised on the farm. Natural beef is dry aged and cut at a USDA-inspected and humane-certified facility. The farm also raises its own feed crops for the animals.
