Pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb, and poultry from a multi-species rotational farm in Bolton, CT.
Allard Family Farm raises beef, pork, lamb, and poultry using a multi-species approach designed to mirror the diversity found in natural ecosystems. The farm began with meat birds and expanded to include cattle, sheep, and pigs. Cuts from all species are available through the farm's online store, with pickup at the farm or at farmers markets. The farm also runs a Happy Chicken CSA, offering subscribers weekly or bi-weekly whole chickens (4 to 6 lbs) across a May through October season. CSA members choose a weekly or bi-weekly cadence and receive a discount compared to farmers market pricing. Chickens in the CSA program are harvested every other week to keep them as fresh as possible. Learn more on their About Page.
Allard Family Farm uses a rotational grazing system built around the idea that healthy land requires multiple species working together rather than a single crop or animal dominating. Cattle and sheep graze the pastures first, trimming the grass. Poultry follow, foraging on clover, scratching through manure patties, helping to fertilize the soil, and keeping pest insects in check. After all animals have cycled through, the land is rested before the next rotation. The farm describes its pork as woodland raised. The farm's stated goal is to work with natural processes rather than against them, with an emphasis on long-term soil health.
