Certified organic tree fruit and watermelons from an 84-acre family orchard in Western Colorado's canyon country.
Fortunate Fruit is a family-owned and operated 84-acre orchard growing certified organic fruit in the canyon country of Western Colorado. The farm grows cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines, watermelons, apples, pears, Asian pears, plums, and potatoes across its full acreage. Peaches alone span 14 yellow varieties plus a white variety, while cherries include three red varieties and Rainier. Rather than harvesting early for shipping convenience, the farm waits until fruit is tree-ripened and at peak flavor. Most fruit is sold wholesale through Rogers Mesa Fruit Co. in Hotchkiss, Colorado, and also reaches grocery stores under the Colorado Organic Fruit label. The orchard is a private residence and not open to walk-in visitors.
Fortunate Fruit grows all of its fruit using certified organic methods, and the farm holds Real Organic Project certification. The orchard's location in the canyon country of Western Colorado provides warm sunny days, cool nights, and nutrient-rich river-bottom soils that the farm describes as ideal conditions for organic fruit production. A core practice is allowing fruit to fully tree-ripen before harvest, a standard the farm contrasts explicitly with the approach of large commercial orchards.
