Certified organic vegetable farm with a farmstand, CSA, farmers' market presence, and dahlia tubers.
Fort Hill Farm is a family-run, certified organic farm that has been growing produce in New Milford, CT since 2002. Farmer-owner Paul Bucciaglia and his partner Rebecca Batchie work roughly 20 acres leased through the Sunny Valley Preserve, a Nature Conservancy property. The farm grows over 225 varieties of seasonal vegetables, herbs, flowers, and small fruit, available at its on-farm farmstand, local farmers' markets, a natural food market, and area restaurants. Fort Hill Farm also offers certified organic garden seedlings in the spring and organic dahlia tubers for home gardeners. A 300-share CSA program uses a flexible Harvest Card debit system, letting members choose their own produce each visit. The farm makes regular donations to the New Milford Food Bank.
Fort Hill Farm is certified organic by Baystate Organic Certifiers and is a member of the Real Organic Project. It also adheres to the growing and labor standards of the NOFA Farmers' Pledge. Growing systems are built on composting, crop rotation, and the addition of rock mineral powders to build healthy soils. No synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used. All crops are grown directly on the farm. Solar panels have been installed on the barn, and irrigation infrastructure was developed with support from the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The farm describes its approach as rooted in ecologically sound agricultural principles that support soil health and insect diversity.
