First Rain Farm is a certified organic farm situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills at 2,500 feet elevation, where Brush Creek meanders through a landscape of mixed coniferous and deciduous forest. Founded in 2012 by Tim Van Wagner, the farm integrates livestock with vegetable production to generate fertility through on-farm composting. Offerings include weekly CSA boxes through a collaborative multi-farm program, u-pick berries, venue rental for weddings and events, and land stewardship services. First Rain Farm holds CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) certification. The farm produces approximately 90% of its fertility needs on-site by integrating livestock with crop production and generating compost from the animals. Minimal-till practices have been in place since 2017, with ongoing refinement aimed at increasing yields and product diversity while improving soil fertility, moisture retention, and soil structure. The collaborative CSA program sources exclusively from CCOF-certified organic farms.
