Fifth Crow Farm is a diversified organic farm founded in 2008 in Pescadero, California. It operates on 150 acres, including 30 acres of row crops, a 24-variety apple orchard, a young pear orchard, and a pastured egg operation with heritage-breed hens. The farm sells through farmers' markets, restaurants in San Francisco and San Mateo County, an online farmstand, and a customizable CSA subscription serving over 700 families. CSA members receive weekly boxes of organic produce and fruit, with add-on options for eggs, heirloom dry beans, farm preserves, and products from partner farms and bakeries. Fifth Crow Farm is certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), certified Bee Friendly Farm, and holds Real Organic Project (ROP) certification, which distinguishes soil-grown and pasture-raised foods. The farm does not use synthetic chemical fertilizers or pesticides, instead managing soil fertility through compost, cover crops, and organic fertilizers. Pest and disease control relies on crop rotation, exclusion, beneficial insects, and organically approved sprays used only as a last resort. The farm has partnered with the NRCS to establish native hedgerow plantings that provide habitat and travel corridors for beneficial insects and pollinators, and has installed irrigation systems designed to conserve energy and water. Chickens are raised in mobile coops, which spreads fertility across fields, controls weeds, and disrupts pest and pathogen cycles. The farm grows a wide diversity of crops as a deliberate alternative to monocropping.
