Organic sauerkraut and fermented gut shots made through traditional live-culture fermentation.
Farmhouse Culture is a fermented foods maker producing organic sauerkrauts and multi-serve gut shots. The business was founded in 2008 by chef Kathryn Lukas, who brought a deep interest in fermentation back from her time working in Europe. The Tuft family took ownership in 2022 and is headquartered in Western Colorado, with a sauerkraut facility in Hotchkiss and a gut shot facility in Petaluma, California. Farmhouse Culture turns organic vegetables into fermented products using one of the oldest known methods of fermentation. Its krauts and gut shots are raw and unpasteurized, and contain live cultures. The product line is dairy-free and gluten-free. Learn more on their About Page.
Farmhouse Culture uses organic cabbage and organic vegetables across its product line. The fermentation process relies solely on the naturally occurring bacteria found on the cabbage itself: the business uses no starter cultures. Products are raw and unpasteurized, preserving live cultures in each batch. The Tuft family, who now steers the brand, has a stated commitment to organic farming and organic ingredients. The sauerkraut facility operates out of Hotchkiss, Colorado, while the gut shot facility is based in Petaluma, California, with each location used to optimize sourcing of organic ingredients.
