Seventh-generation family farm offering 100% grass-fed raw cheese, beef, pastured eggs, and pork from Clay City, Indiana.
Farm Connection is a seventh-generation family farm operated by the Yegerlehner family in Clay City, Indiana, with roots on the same land going back to 1851. The family dairy began in 1950, and in 2000 the farm opened an on-farm store and started producing raw cheese from its grass-fed herd. Today Farm Connection raises a 100% grass-fed dairy and beef herd, a flock of pastured laying hens, and seasonally raises pastured pork and meat chickens. The farm store carries the family's own products alongside goods from a network of local partner producers, including honey, sourdough bread, maple syrup, lamb, duck eggs, and more. Visitors to the farm store can watch the cheesemaking process on production days. Learn more on their About Page.
Farm Connection manages its dairy herd as a 100% grass-fed operation and has practiced rotational grazing since the early 1990s. The farm's cows are raised without hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides. The farm has pursued sustainable tillage and conservation practices since the 1970s, with the stated goal of improving soil life and pasture quality to support both the animals and the land. Laying hens are raised on pasture using eggmobiles that are moved regularly. Pigs are raised seasonally on pasture and are fed whey and skim milk byproducts from the farm's own cheese and butter production. Meat chickens are also raised on pasture seasonally.
