Six-generation USDA Certified Organic farm raising pasture-raised meats, eggs, vegetables, and CSA shares in Kentucky.
Elmwood Stock Farm is a nearly 400-acre, USDA Certified Organic operation that has been farmed by the same Kentucky family for six generations. Ann Stone, John Bell, and their families took over the farm in the 1990s and converted the entire operation to certified organic over roughly 15 years. The farm raises Berkshire pigs, pasture-raised chickens and turkeys, and grass-fed, grass-finished cattle and sheep, and grows a wide variety of organic vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Products are available through seasonal CSA shares (vegetable, meat, egg, flower, and bread and coffee), a farm store, and farmers markets. Elmwood Stock Farm holds USDA Certified Organic certification across its entire animal-care and crop-growing operation, maintained through an annually updated Organic Systems Plan. It also carries Real Organic Project certification, which verifies soil-based growing and meaningful pasture access for animals. The farm practices regenerative agriculture, using cover crops, crop rotation, and rotational grazing across an eight-year cycle to restore soil health. Animals are raised outdoors on pasture, rotated through fresh fields regularly, and given no antibiotics, hormones, or steroids. Cattle are grass-fed and grass-finished, grazing a forage-based diet their entire lives without grain finishing. Chickens and turkeys are raised outdoors on pasture with organic grains supplemented by foraging. The farm also uses floating row cover, a greenhouse, and high tunnels to extend the growing season and broaden produce availability.
