USDA Certified Organic farm and stone mill growing and milling whole-grain flours, plus produce, eggs, and honey.
Early Morning Harvest is an Iowa farm and stone mill that grows organic grains and mills them on-site into a line of more than twenty whole-grain flour products. The farm, which returned to family ownership in 1993, transitioned to organic practices in 2000 and added a permanent stone mill in 2011. Core grains include wheat, rye, buckwheat, and corn, all milled in small batches. Alongside its grain and flour operation, the farm raises pasture-raised chickens for eggs, produces clover and buckwheat honey, and grows vegetables. An on-farm store and a traceability program allow buyers to trace flour back to the specific field where the grain was grown. Learn more on their About Page.
Early Morning Harvest holds USDA Certified Organic status and is also Non-GMO Project verified. The farm has operated under organic practices since 2000, with no use of glyphosate or synthetic chemicals prohibited by the USDA, including pre-harvest applications. Weed management relies on diverse crop rotations, cover cropping, mechanical cultivation, soil-building practices, timely planting, field monitoring, and managed field borders and buffer zones. Grains are stone-milled on the farm in small batches, a process the farm states preserves the natural oils and character of the grain. The farm also describes its approach as regenerative, with a focus on building soil health without synthetic inputs. Eggs come from pasture-raised chickens.
