Multi-generational Illinois family farm selling grass-fed beef, pastured pork, lamb, and poultry.
Dietrich Ranch is a family farm in Mt. Morris, Illinois, on land the Dietrich family has operated since Russell and Cora Dietrich purchased it in 1947. The ranch raises grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork, lamb, poultry, and also offers pantry products made from its naturally grown ingredients. Its cattle herd, primarily Black Angus and Devon, grazes rotationally on pastures through spring, summer, and fall, with hay feeding through winter. Berkshire pigs are raised outdoors in wooded areas and field edges, foraging and rooting across rotating sections. Chickens are raised with open space and access to grass and insects. Farm visits are available by appointment. Learn more on their About Page.
Dietrich Ranch raises its animals without antibiotics, hormones, or added chemicals. Cattle are rotated daily into fresh grass paddocks, a system the ranch describes as mimicking the natural movement of grazing herds to stimulate pasture regrowth and build soil health; animal waste is returned to the land as nutrients for the next grass cycle. Berkshire feeder pigs are started near the barn, then moved to pasture once trained, rotating through wooded and field-edge sections to allow land recovery between uses, and are also supplemented with grain. Chickens are raised with open space and forage access. The ranch describes its overall approach as regenerative, aiming to manage natural resources sustainably for the benefit of the land and the animals raised on it.
