Dakota Graz'd is a family cattle ranch operated by Jed and Melissa Rider in northwestern North Dakota, just north of Alexander. The ranch's homestead sits on land that has been in the family since the 1950s. Dakota Graz'd raises grass-fed and grass-finished beef and sells it directly to customers as custom half or whole beef by reservation. Buyers place a deposit to reserve a processing date, choose their own cuts from a full selection of steaks, roasts, ground beef, ribs, and more, and the ranch covers the processing cost. Dakota Graz'd raises cattle using regenerative management practices, applying five soil health principles: zero or minimal soil disturbance, keeping the soil covered with litter, diversity, maintaining a living plant root for as long as possible, and integrating livestock into the land. Grazing is managed through short grazing periods, long rest periods, controlled animal impact, and stock density, with the goal of using plants and livestock to build soil health.
