Family farm raising pastured pork, grassfed beef, lamb, poultry, and eggs on 40 acres in central Iowa.
Crooked Gap Farm is a family-run farm established in 2008 on 40 acres outside Knoxville, Iowa, operated by Ethan and Rebecca Book. The farm raises woodlot-pastured pork, grassfed beef, grassfed lamb, pastured poultry and eggs, and rabbit. Beyond meat, it also produces garden fruits and vegetables, preserves, baked goods, and farmcrafted soap. Customers can purchase individual cuts or join a prepaid "You Choose Meat CSA" subscription, which delivers a selection of cuts twice a month with pickup options in Knoxville and Des Moines. CSA members receive preferred-buyer status, giving them early access to cuts before orders open to the general public. Whole and half hogs are also available for purchase. Learn more on their About Page.
Crooked Gap Farm's 40 acres includes 23 acres of pasture and 17 wooded acres. Before the farm was purchased, the land was enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) for at least 14 years with a prairie grass planting, and no chemicals were applied during that period. The farm continues to apply no chemicals to its land. Animals are raised naturally and humanely, with no antibiotics, no hormones, and no animal by-products in custom feed rations. Rotational grazing is used on the pastures to improve the land over time. Non-ruminants are supplemented with non-GMO feed that is custom mixed on the farm. The garden and orchard are grown without the use of chemicals.
