Cow Track Ranch is a one-woman-owned-and-operated working ranch in Nicasio, California, with roots going back to 1987 when founder Melissa's family acquired the historic McNamara Ranch property. The ranch raises Angus beef cattle bred, born, and raised on the property, and sells individual cuts, half-beef, and whole-beef orders by appointment. Beyond beef, the ranch offers pasture-raised eggs from a free-roaming flock, raw honey from on-ranch hives, and homegrown goods including beef tallow skin balm, tallow lip balm, and rosemary sea salt. Melissa holds a seat on the Cattlemen's Beef Board by USDA appointment and is certified through the Master of Beef Advocacy program by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
Cattle at Cow Track Ranch graze the ranch's rolling hills year-round, with supplemental dry feed, protein supplements, and minerals provided between seasons. Calves are raised alongside their mothers until weaning at six to ten months of age. Steers spend the majority of their lives on pasture, followed by 90 to 120 days of grain finishing while retaining access to pasture and forage. The herd is checked daily by horseback, on foot, or ATV, and veterinary care is handled in close coordination with a licensed veterinarian. The ranch maintains American Angus Association-registered Angus bulls with genetics selected for beef quality and grazing efficiency. Steers are humanely harvested by a local USDA-Certified processor in Sonoma County. The operation meets Beef Quality Assurance-Certified standards, and Melissa is an advocate for regenerative agriculture.
