Cogmagun Poultry Processing Co. is a first- and second-generation family farm and provincially inspected processing operation that sells free-range poultry and meats through its Free Range Store retail location in Bedford. The farm traces its roots to 1974, when the founding family purchased an old Hants County property and spent decades building it into a working farm. The business raises free-range chicken and turkey, sources free-range pork from local Nova Scotia farmers, and carries Nova Scotia beef and lamb. Cogmagun Poultry Processing Co. is a licensed specialty chicken grower operating under the regulations set by the Chicken Farmers of Nova Scotia. Chickens are raised on all-natural grain rations with no medications, no antibiotics, no animal or fish by-products, and no growth enhancers. The same feed standards apply to the free-range pork raised on the farm; feeder pigs are sourced from local Nova Scotia farmers and finished on the property under the same formulated ration policy. The processing plant is provincially inspected, and every chicken is inspected by a provincial meat inspector. In addition to processing its own birds, the plant offers custom processing for licensed poultry producers, hobby farmers, and backyard growers.
