Registered North Country Cheviot sheep, heritage-breed chicks, and border collie herding lessons on a Nova Scotia farm.
ActiveLife Farm is situated southwest of Folly Mountain in Colchester County, Nova Scotia. It is home to a flock of registered North Country Cheviot sheep, heritage breeds of poultry, dairy goats raised for goat's milk soap, and working border collies. A second flock of Cheviot sheep is maintained on a large island in southwest Nova Scotia. The farm sells freezer lamb, heritage-breed chicks, registered NCC lambs for breeding stock, and hand-made lamb and kid jackets. Kevin Fitch also offers sheepdog training lessons for border collies and their handlers.
The home flock of North Country Cheviot sheep is raised primarily on pasture using a pastured free-range system. The island flock lives on a large island in southwest Nova Scotia where the sheep thrive on grasses, kelp, and seaweed year-round with minimal human interference. Border collies are raised and trained at the farm following a traditional relationship between shepherd, sheep, and dog, with the training process emphasizing the dog's confidence and natural herding instinct.
