Overview

Volunteer-run nonprofit farm growing sustainably raised produce for food banks, schools, and soup kitchens.

CoCo San Sustainable Farm is a nonprofit urban farm operated under AgLantis (501c3) and founded by Carolyn Phinney, who started the project after learning that local food banks lacked access to fresh leafy greens. The farm leases 15 acres of public buffer land from the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District and has donated over 170,000 pounds of fresh produce to soup kitchens, schools, the food bank, and other nonprofits. Crops grown at the farm include kale, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, peppers, pumpkins, and herbs. The farm is run entirely by volunteers, drawing roughly 1,000 participants per year, half of them youth. It also hosts hands-on STEM education programs for youth and adults on topics including regenerative agriculture and carbon sequestration. Learn more on their About Page.
