Certified organic row crop and forage farm growing food-grade grains, forages, and pesticide-free sunflower birdseed.
Clarkson Farm is a certified organic row crop and forage farm in Cerro Gordo, Piatt County, Central Illinois. It grows food-grade corn (blue, white, yellow, and waxy), food-grade clear hilum soybeans, food and feed grade wheat, and a range of forages including horse-quality small bales of mixed grasses, alfalfa, clover, and straw, as well as large square bales of mixed alfalfa and grasses for organic dairy cows. The farm also grows pesticide-free black oil sunflowers, supplying seed to Prairie Melody Birdseed, a sister company whose products are sold through online and local retailers. Lynn Clarkson manages the farm alongside his wife Karen Clarkson and daughter Seneca Murley, who serves as Organic Farm Manager. Learn more on their About Page.
Clarkson Farm is certified organic. It grows organic and non-GMO grains and forages, and its sunflower birdseed is produced pesticide-free and neonicotinoid-free. The farm has grown sunflowers for the black oil seed market for over ten years, often as a second crop following wheat, and used sunflower cultivation during the three-year transition period between conventional and certified organic field status. Lynn Clarkson has farmed in Central Illinois his entire life and, through the related Clarkson Grain Company, has over 30 years of experience developing identity-preserved, food-grade grain and specialty products.
