Joyful Wren Farm is a small-scale market farm in Champaign, Illinois, run by sisters Anna Thomson and Laura Thomson. The farm focuses on pasture-raised eggs from a multi-breed flock chosen specifically to produce naturally colorful shells. It also grows vegetables on two acres of intensively farmed land. Eggs are washed, candled, and Illinois Department of Agriculture licensed before sale. Customers can shop at the on-site farm stand, order online for pickup or delivery, or find the eggs at Martinelli's Market in Champaign. Joyful Wren Farm is Certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World. Its chickens are free-range and forage for plants and insects. Their feed is supplemented with a non-GMO layer feed sourced from Stutzman's Mill in Arthur, Illinois, along with black soldier fly, vegetable scraps, grit, oyster shell, and sustainably harvested Fertrell fishmeal. The farm selects chicken breeds that lay a natural variety of egg shell colors. Eggs are individually candled and washed on-farm before boxing.
