Regenerative family farm raising grass-fed beef, pasture-raised chicken and pork, eggs, vegetables, and flowers in Uxbridge, MA
Chockalog Farm is a family-owned regenerative farm that has operated on its Uxbridge land since the mid-1960s, run as a working business since 2013 by Wenona Racicot. The farm spans 36 owned acres plus 23 leased hay fields and raises grass-fed, grass-finished beef, organically-fed pasture-raised chicken, organically-fed pork, and eggs. Vegetables and flowers are available through CSA programs, and cut flower bouquets are sold at the farm store and local farmers markets. The on-site farm store also stocks products from neighboring makers, including Massachusetts honey, local maple syrup, and hand-poured candles. Horse boarding rounds out the farm's offerings.
Chockalog Farm describes its approach as regenerative and self-characterizes it as going beyond organic standards, using a broad set of land-improvement techniques: highly intensive rotational mob grazing, daily cattle moves, multi-species grazing, composting, no-till cultivation, mulching, cover cropping, interplanting, integrated pest management, silvopasture, and food forest development. Cattle, primarily of Devon genetics chosen for their suitability to a grass-only diet, are moved to fresh pasture on a daily basis; water, shade, and minerals travel with them. The vegetable and flower crops are grown no-till. The farm states that every animal it sells was raised on-site under direct supervision, and that its beef is grass-fed and grass-finished with no grain feeding at any stage.
