Grass-fed, grass-finished beef and wild-caught Alaskan salmon from a family ranch operating since 1964.
Carter Country Meats is a multi-generational family ranch business selling grass-fed, grass-finished beef raised on 40,000 acres on the western slope of the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming, in operation since 1964. The ranch's cattle graze land fed by twenty-seven natural springs across a landscape of juniper, sagebrush, and limestone cliffs. Beef is available as individual cuts, sampler boxes, subscription meat boxes, and bulk cow shares. Beyond beef, Carter Country Meats also offers wild-caught Alaskan salmon, grass-fed beef tallow, bone broth, and a tallow-based skin care line. The business's beef has been lab-tested for nutrient density, not solely for marbling. Products are flash frozen and shipped directly to customers. Learn more on their About Page.
Carter Country Meats raises cattle on open rangeland using regenerative and restorative land management practices, with a stated focus on improving soil health over time. The ranch tracks soil organic matter as a measure of land condition. Cattle are grass-fed and grass-finished, and the business harvests older animals, between 4 and 14 years of age. Beef is double-aged after harvest. The ranch holds EverSoil certification and operates under its own 'Certified Country' standard, which it describes as emphasizing regenerative and restorative practices. Wild-caught Alaskan salmon is sourced from a small family hook-and-line fleet that catches fish one at a time on a line, with no nets or factory trawlers.
