Working guest ranch raising grass-fed beef, lamb, free-range eggs, and organic vegetables in Southwest Colorado.
Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch is a working ranch set on roughly 2,000 acres in McElmo Canyon outside Cortez, Colorado. Owners Garry and Ming Adams raise grass-fed beef and lamb, Churro sheep, free-range chickens for eggs, and organic vegetables, herbs, and fruit on the property. The ranch also operates as a historic guest property, offering seven distinctive cabins and ranch houses near Mesa Verde National Park. Ranch-raised beef and lamb are available for purchase in frozen packages, and guests may enjoy complimentary eggs and gather fresh vegetables and fruit during their stay. The ranch has also been represented at the Telluride Farmers' Market. Garry and Ming raise Churro sheep, a heritage breed, and provide the wool to local elder Navajo weavers. Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch raises its beef and lamb on grass and describes them as organically raised. Both beef and lamb carry certification from Animal Welfare Approved and are grass-fed certified by A Greener World. Chickens are free-range, and vegetables and fruit are described as organically raised. Churro sheep, a breed that nearly became extinct, are kept on the property as part of the ranch's heritage animal stewardship.
