Family-grown brown and white rice from a four-generation Southern Illinois farm.
Cahokia Rice is a family-owned rice farm operated by Blake Gerard, a fourth-generation farmer who has worked the land in Southern Illinois for over 30 years. The Gerard family has farmed this property alongside the Mississippi River for four generations, with Blake returning in 1990 to revitalize the operation. The farm grows, mills, and packages its rice in small batches, harvesting the grain at peak protein content. Cahokia Rice offers two products: a higher-protein brown rice and a higher-protein white rice, each sold in 32oz bags. The farm sells direct to consumers and also provides a wholesale channel for retail partners. Learn more on their About Page.
Cahokia Rice grows its rice without GMOs and employs regenerative farming and biodynamic growing methods to protect the environment and support wildlife habitat. The farm's proximity to the Mississippi River provides natural irrigation for its nutrient-rich soil, reducing the need for added water inputs. Soil conservation practices are used to prevent erosion and maintain the land's natural fertility across generations. The farm reports that its land supports nearly 220 species of wildlife, including shorebirds and migrating waterfowl. Cahokia Rice holds a Non-GMO certification from A Greener World (AGW), a Food Alliance Green Seal certification, and is recognized by Regenerative Farmers of America. The rice is annually tested after each harvest for heavy metals.
