Overview
USDA Certified Organic produce, eggs, chicken, beef, and pork from a 40-acre family farm in southwest Iowa.
Bridgewater Farm is a 40-acre diversified family farm in Adair County, southwest Iowa, operated by Dale Raasch, who has farmed the land since 1978. Produce sales began in 2007, and the farm earned USDA Certified Organic status in 2013. Today it grows over 40 varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs across more than 23 certified organic acres, supported by 11 high tunnels, a greenhouse, and a dedicated pack shed. The farm also raises free-range laying hens and broiler chickens, Angus-Gelbvieh cross cattle, and Red Wattle pigs. Dale's son Tyler co-manages the operation, and the farm employs 5 to 15 people seasonally. All fruits and vegetables are USDA Certified Organic by IDALS, conforming to National Organic Program requirements for seeds, plants, practices, and inputs. The farm uses mulch for weed management, natural fertilization strategies, and hand-digs and hand-harvests its crops. Laying hens and broiler chickens are cage-free and free-range, fed a non-GMO and organic diet supplemented with farm produce scraps, and raised without antibiotics. Broilers are processed at a state-inspected facility. Beef cattle are an Angus-Gelbvieh cross raised on grass and non-GMO organic feed, with no antibiotics or hormones; they are processed at a state-inspected facility. Red Wattle pigs are raised on non-GMO organic feed and farm produce, also without antibiotics or hormones, and processed at a state-inspected facility.
