Wholesale organic sourdough bakery supplying hearth-baked breads to Colorado's Western Slope.
Blue Grouse Bread is a wholesale organic bread bakery in Norwood, Colorado, supplying hearth-baked loaves to restaurants, grocery stores, and markets across Colorado's Western Slope. Every bread in the lineup is naturally leavened using a sourdough starter and made with organic flours. The bakery mills its own whole wheat flour on-site using a Meadows 8-inch stone mill. Loaves range from a classic baguette and country loaf to more distinctive options such as a 100% spelt, a German-style seeded rye, and an Anadama made with house-milled heirloom corn and molasses. Deliveries run three days a week to towns including Norwood, Telluride, Ridgway, Montrose, and Hotchkiss.
All breads are made with organic flours and are naturally leavened from a sourdough starter. The bakery uses long fermentation times and bakes on a stone hearth. All whole wheat flour is grown in Colorado and stone-milled in-house. Blue Grouse Bread sources local and regional ingredients, with a stated goal of reaching 100% regional sourcing. The Millhouse loaf is made entirely from Colorado-grown wheat and features a rotating selection of grains from around the state, including grain grown at Marolf Ranch in Norwood, under two miles from the bakery. Spelt is sourced from Rocky Draw Farm in Mancos, CO, where fields are worked solely by horse-power.
