Pasture-raised heritage pork and 100% grass-fed lamb and mutton from a family farm in northern Alabama.
Blackburn Fork Farm is a family-run farm in northern Alabama raising heritage-breed pork and 100% grass-fed lamb and mutton. The farm was shaped by a decade the family spent living in northern Mozambique among subsistence farmers, an experience that formed their conviction that food nourishes both body and spirit. Blackburn Fork Farm sells its meat through an online farm store, a CSA subscription box, and several pick-up locations, including a farmers market stop and on-farm pick-up. The farm's focus is nutrient density over volume, prioritizing omega 3-6 ratios and mineral levels rather than total yield. Products are also available for home delivery. Blackburn Fork Farm raises all ruminants on pasture on a 100% grass-fed diet of grass and forbs. Pigs are heritage Red Wattle breed, chosen for meat quality over fast growth, and receive supplemental feed from a non-GMO, corn- and soy-free source with constant pasture access. No antibiotics are used in any of the farm's animal care. The farm uses no genetically modified organisms. Stocking densities are kept appropriate to pasture health, and the farm actively works to increase diversity of grasses, herbs, and legumes across its pastures. Breed selection favors vitality and genetic diversity suited to the land rather than pure bloodlines or rapid growth. The farm follows a colostrum-first protocol for lambs, allowing newborns to nurse from their mothers before any other intervention.
