A ten-acre working farm with gardens, orchards, and a farm store in the San Joaquin Valley
Zinc House Farm is a ten-acre working farm in Escalon, California, operated by the Franzia family as part of Clark Ferrea Winery. The farm grows vegetables, fruit trees, cut flowers, and seasonal crops across five acres of gardens, and it welcomes visitors to see agriculture in practice. A Farm Store is open daily for shopping, wine sales, and by-the-glass service. Recipes developed from the farm's own harvest pair its produce with Clark Ferrea wines. The Franzia siblings, Carol, Michael, Paul, and Brian, each lead a different aspect of the operation, from winemaking and finance to engineering and agriculture. Learn more on their About Page.
Zinc House Farm farms according to organic principles. Soil health is maintained through composting, cover crops, and crop rotation, and vegetables, fruit trees, and cut flowers are grown without chemicals. Native plantings on the west side of the property provide habitat for owls and hawks, while insectary beds support pollinators year-round. Goats and chickens contribute to the farm's cycle through grazing and fertilizing. The San Joaquin Valley's growing climate supports a year-round harvest: cool-weather greens, citrus, and root crops in winter; peas, lettuces, and early stone fruit in spring; tomatoes, peppers, melons, and figs in summer; and pomegranates and persimmons in fall.
