Smit Farms is a family-owned orchard established in 1969 in Linden, California, in San Joaquin County. Founded by John Smit, a Dutch immigrant who converted a dairy ranch into rows of fruit trees, the farm has been family-run ever since. It grows a wide variety of fruit, including Fuji and Pink Lady apples, table grapes, cherries, stone fruit, blueberries, pomegranates, kiwifruit, and Asian pears, as well as almonds and pistachios. Smit Farms also offers dried fruits. The farm sells its produce at farmers markets across California, from the Bay Area to Southern California, and through its online shop. Smit Farms grows its produce free of artificial pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. Most of its orchards have been certified organic by the CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) and registered with the California Department of Food and Agriculture as organic. The farm is also exploring regenerative farming techniques focused on sustainable solutions for the soil and the consumer. Its fruit is picked fresh from the tree and transported directly to farmers market locations throughout the state.
